I'd join this, i think you should mix it up and the competition should be monthly, to allow people a solid time to develop their tactic,
also, one month you should look at recreating real life tactics, then the next you could create a tactic for a certain team or something similar?

Some good suggestions there, but with the real life tactic it is always open for debate, where you might see it being played different from the person who judges which one is closest to the way the team plays.

i agree, the problem with asking someone to make a Barcelona tactic is, that Pep has created 3 or 4 different systems for different games, so you'd really have to specify..

The problem with what was already discussed is that it cannot work as a competition. There is no objective way of selecting a winner. The only way I can see a tactic competition working is if you choose a team, everyone creates a suitable tactic and sends it in, you start a save and holiday the season with 'use current match tactics' ticked and see who gets the best results. That way, we can see who is the best tactician and all other factors (motivating, signings, etc.) are controlled.

Not sure what people would think of that idea...

I take on board what you have said previously i have done this where we set a certain formation then tested it with a certain international team and whoever done best won.

Might be worth looking at different ways.

Not everything is controlled unfortunately (injuries for example), but I would agree that this is the best way forward with a competition of this nature.

Perhaps the scoring could be weighted?

Example:
Whilst league points, goals scored, goals conceded should make up the bulk of competition scoring you could apply multipliers for tactical innovations - use of a sweeper (league points), playing with a lone striker (goal scoring), attacking strategy (goals conceded) and so on - I appreciate that could be complicated and the weighting would need to be fair but potentially it makes for an interesting contest?

I like the thought of this need to really have a think between us all how to move this forward and get everyone involved.

Use a Virtual Machine!

Holiday a game to the Champions League Final. Add New Manager for one of the competing teams. Every submits a tactic for that team.

You enter the match. Save the state in the VM. Change to one of the submitted tactics & let play. Print screen the result etc. Reload the saved state and try another tactic. Do that for however many tactics are submitted.

Winner is whoever wins it. If there's more than one, result & match stats are uploaded and FMFB users vote.

After reading Topics in here on 4231 and 460 tactics, could be a n idea for fm12, to set out scenarios/tactics for people to construct.
The best way to keep this a interesting theory is to keep it for fun and see what people come up with rather than a competition, as the latter always seems harder to have a true outcome.
