Intro

I think we all agree when we say player reviews are a thing of the past, they were mostly filled with info no one needed and a quality one was tough to come across. So i decided to look at what it was people want from a review and literally just write that.

Every 1/2 weeks I will update this thread with new 'gems'. Each update will feature 4-6 players who i believe will be worthy names to note. Some gems will be young players, some will be gems for the lower leagues, the topic will differ but the content will be the same, quality players for all your brain boxes.

Obviously the thread is open for suggestion, how to improve the layout etc and of course any players you may have found that you deem a 'gem' pop in here or even write a review yourself. I will need help, for example i hate LLM so finding gems for that will be difficult but if there is an LLM guy out there who can provide me with a list of names or fancies writing the reviews himself that would be epic.

Week1

Leonel Galeano – CB – 18

This young argentine seems to be a new gem for FM 11, he starts the game at Indipendiente and will cost usually around 3.7m at the start of the game.

The big plus for this lad is his ground work, already a accomplished tackler of the ball, not much will get past him on the ground or in the air, his heading stats don't jump off the page to start with but will grow with both time and experience. He has a sound balance of pace and strength which, of course, will improve in time. The lad has great potential to form one half of a solid partnership at the back.

Sergio Araujo – ST – 18

Araujo is another young Argentine who has a massive future ahead of him. He can be found in the Boca junior side and will cost around 1.8m from the start of the game.

The strength’s of this kids game are obvious, he travels well with the ball at his feet, he’s pacy and can finish, pretty much themaking of a top striker on FM. Despite having a handful of decent stats for a striker there are also a few that cause concern, his positioning and movement off the ball could cause a few problems with the lads but considering his young age he can easily be increased to a decent enough level.

Alan Patrick – AMC/MC – 19

Still sticking with the South American theme Mr. Alan Patrick is another young lad who can add a bit of south americna flair to yourside. Found at Santos, the young lad will cost around 4m.

He starts with some solid stats with very few poor ones but very few outstanding ones. With the right training however he could become incredible, it would only take a stat boost of 1-2 to make this lad a real stand out playmaker.

Daniel Kofi Agyei– 18 – DM/MC

The Ghanaians showed themselves to be a brute force in this summers world cup, with a host of young talent the national side could have a big future ahead of them. If FM 11 is anything to go by, this lad will be a part of it.

Having already been picked up by Fiorentina this 18 year old definitely has a big future ahead of him, he will cost you around 3-4 million to buy but will be well worth it. Technically this player has some flaws, his dribbling and heading may not be what you want it for a dominant force to sit in front of the back four but he passess the ball well, is strong in a tackleand can mark players out of games.

*Note: These players are taken from the demo so some playersmay be affected when the full games come out.

Also i don’t use PA or CA to findplayers or write my reviews so i may review a player who is awesome on my gamebut shit on yours.*

Some fantastic finds there mate :)

I remember Kofi Aygei from my Fiorentina game in FM10, he was quite useful in that version too. But his potential was not great, and he did not improve a lot. Araujo looks like a great prospect but being one footed lets him down. Galeano looks like hes gonna be a beast though, good attributes in all the right areas. His jumping could be better though.

Week2 - The Transfer Listed Gems

Tamir Cohen- MC/DMC - 26 - Asking Price: £1.7m

At a price of just 1.7m this lad could be a great capture for any championship club, the lad possess some solid stats across the board, not an outstanding player but will get the job done week in, week out. He will attract some attention from the bigger championship clubs however so be prepared to pay him sizeable wages.

Andrew Davies - CB - 25 - Asking Price: £0

Rotting in the Stoke reserves there is no reason this lad can't become a star in your back four, he is on the slow side and not the most composed but he is solid when it comes to tackling and heading, the two key stats for a center back. Partner him with a pacey defender and you have one hell of a center back pairing.

Andy Robinson - Winger - 30 - Asking Price: £35k

For such a small price this guy is well worth a punt, he's not going to be playing week in week out no matter how good you train him, he's only going to get older and his already worrying physical stats will decrease. But at 30 you can get a few years out of him yet, he will make the biggest impact coming on for the last half hour of close games where he can use his still top notch technical ability to make the difference.

*Note: Asking prices may differ depending on when you approach the player, these price are from a month into the game you may find they are slightly higher at the stat, if this is the case i would just wait and see what happens.*

Pretty nice so far. I know you have links to screeners, but if I could suggest one improvement it'd be that you suggest which level he can play at now and if there's any scope for realistic improvement (In terms of what levels he could play at in the future).

I've got an idea for your next review. It could be about young British players who have lots of potential. Some good ones I can think of are Tom Cairney (Hull) and Wickham (Ipswich).

Some more young British players, that haven't been bought by big clubs yet, I can think off the top of my head are:

Krystian Pearce (Notts County)
Joe Mattock (WBA)
Liam Cooper (Hull)

EnglandsFuture

Tom Cairney – 19 – CM

The lad from Hull has been attracting a hell of a lot attention from the bigger clubs in the English leagues and with good reason. For such a young lad he already has some outstanding stats, i would rate him good enough for a lower Premiership side. The only thing stopping this lad being a star player for any side is the mental side of his game, his off the ball movement, work rate and anticipation aren’t what they could be but will improve as he develops. This lad will become great so bring him in asap to avoid paying big money for him further down the line.

He will cost as little as 2.5m at the start of the game, asking for wages of about 6k.

Henri Lansbury – 19 – MC

This lad has been on the brink of FM wonderkidness for a few years now and it seems SI have finally deemed him worthy enough now for a major stat boost. His stats are solid across the board, he has pretty much all the required skills you need. His pace, first touch and dribbling will make him dangerous playing as an advanced playmaker, running with the ball from your midfield. His passing could do with some improvement but again he’s young and those stats will develop. Already at lower Premiership standard, as you can in my game he’son loan at Bolton and starting.

Signing him could be difficult, he’ll be happy at Arsenal for a couple of seasons and I’d guess he’ll get games, if he doesn’t jump at him as soon as he becomes unhappy. Try to get him on loan first season though, hopefully if he enjoys his time on loan it will make him much more favourable towards a move to your club in the future. If you do get him at a big club and don’t think he’s going to be starting loan him out to a championship club, he will get more play time and should flourish by dropping a league.

Jack Robinson – LB – 17

Quality left backs are notoriously difficult to come across on FM, gone are the days Marcelo could be signed for as little as 5.5 million. This lad however, seems to change all that, tipped by the Liverpool back room staff as a potential leading premiership left back, the quicker you can get this guy in your team the better. At the minute his stats are nothing to shout about, he’s around league 1 standard, maybe decent cover for some championship sides but he looks a great player for the future.

You can get him on a pre contract if your quick enough but you’ll have to be a big enough club to persuade him to leave Liverpool, you have to get him quick though or he’ll grow more and more attached to the idea of staying at Liverpool.

Sean Morrison – CB – 19

Another hot prospect tipped for a big move in real life,Morrison has all the stats you need for a quality centre back, available for as little as 475k at the start of the game from Swindon (he’s already transferred in my game) he is well worth signing, at the very least you’ll get a profit from him.

His anticipation and his decision making are the two most worrying stats but they will improve, by how much I’m not sure, it will depend on how you develop him. Already at a solid championship level he can come into just about any Premiership club outside the top 6 and provide solid back up.

Developing Young Stars

So I realise I have been mentioning a lot in my player reviews that the way you develop a gem will massively affect how he turns out,a fact you a probably aware of. What you may not know how however is how to actually do it. So I am going to enlighten you all as to how I do it, I’m not saying this is the best way to do it because it isn’t, this is just my way.

I have been playing FM for about 4 years now and every year I've experimented with ways to develop young players, there are a lot of different methods, most of which i won't go into. The main thing you need to remember about all the methods is that some will work for certain players and not for others, that’s the hardest partof player development, knowing which players will suit which development style.

My preferred style is the ‘Game Time’ theory. For me there is no better way for a player to learn his trade than to get out there and start playing, and I don’t mean just sticking him in the Carling Cup games against Rushden & Diamonds. Take a risk and put him in your starting 11, you don’t have to play him week in week out. I always try to give my most promising players 15-20 games a season. It’s a risk there’s no doubt but for the most promising players it’s a necessary one. If you can’t bring yourself to stick a youngster in your starting 11 loan him out to a club where you know he will get that amount of games.

As I said there are other ways to develop players so i will give an overview of them and allow you to make up your own mind.

The ‘Tutor’ theory is the theory that if you take a young prospect and get an aged superstar to tutor him he will grow into a superstar himself, theoretically it works but realistically a player will get tutored for around 6 months, in which time his stats will barely increase, it just isn’t worth it,sure it may help in the long run but it can’t be relied on as a sole way to develop a player.

The ‘let him get on with it’ theory is the theory that if a player is destined to become a world class player he will, whether or not you give him help. This will work for certain players to a certain extent but they will need game time at some point, I would recommend starting to slowly integrate them in your side from about 17/18, earlier if you feel their stats are good enough, increase the amount of appearances they make depending on stat growth and performance.

You cannot expect to sign a hot prospect at 16, leave him for four years in your reserves and chuck him in your team, it simply will not work. Each method has it's own merits and like I said will work for certain players, try to pick one that will work the best for the majority of your players and put it into practice.

More quality reviews there Cracka. By the way, I and Craig Shakespeare, the Hull assistant manager, believe Cairney will develop into a player good enough for a midtable/top half Premier League team. Otherwise, some very accurate reviews. Posted Image
