Heading into next year I'm going to work on more football ideals, the process started with my 3-4-3 at Ajax and next year I'd like to build some tactics like these;
- A counter attacking formation that depends on getting the ball down the flanks to pacey wingers
- A formation where both my strikers score consistently, not just one running away with it
- A formation where I get the most from a big target man who can hold up play
- A formation with wingbacks(only ever done this once, was with Flamengo a few year back, Juan and Fierro were great)
Bored of relying on set pieces and Poachers. I've had about five different set piece routines this year that have brought huge success, like 15 goals plus a season from one CB, even at times when I've left it on mixed my CBs still score far too many, needs looking at by SI. And for the past two FMs the Poacher role has been far too overpowered.
Set pieces have been a joke for a while now, it's true. I haven't made a routine since FM09, but even a default schedule has seemed a bit too effective on FM11. I don't like picking up what feels like "free" goals from corners, especially when doing my best to avoid it by sticking with default settings.
As for the poacher, I think the issue is the fact that the player's pace isn't anywhere near as important as it should be. Anticipation, composure and off the ball seem to be the ones that matter. Even if the poacher is slower than the CB marking him, he can still break clear of him and sometimes it looks a bit too easy. It's as though the CB's positioning and concentration aren't quite being given their due in the ME.
