They're very happy, aren't they? Fortunately for them, they will be able to keep that trophy, because in this database, the American "soccer" system has undergone a complete revamp. The Canadians have joined the pyramid as well, and the Major League Soccer is no more. That has been replaced by the Premier Soccer League ; 18 teams fighting it out for the trophy.[b] Best of all, all the rules you have loved to hate about the US pyramid on FM are no more, replaced by the transfer systems used worldwide!!
The Important Points
Premier Soccer League
- 18 teams take part, each playing each other twice
- League then splits and the halves play each other once
- Bottom 3 are relegated to the National Soccer League
National Soccer League
- 20 teams take part, each playing each other twice
- Top 2 teams are promoted, with a play-off deciding the other team
- 4 bottom teams are relegated to the United Soccer League
United Soccer League and North American Development League
- 60 teams are split into 6 groups, playing each other in their group 4 teams
- Top 3 in each group go forward to the Promotion play-off and bottom 3 in each group go to the Relegation play-off
- 4 are promoted and 4 are relegated.
Also included is a Cup competition played by all teams in USA and Canada, as well as the Canadian Championship, with a mid-season Barclays North America Trophy. Taking part in this are the top 2 in the Premier Soccer League, with the Copa Liberatadores winner and the FA Cup winner.
