I was just wondering what kind of transfer policy/trends (if any) you guys employed?

I tend to hold a firm policy of buying prospects with a bit of experience (Delph/Hazard/Hummels) over established guys. As I am managing Chelsea obviously my squad is a bit aged, Cech/Terry/Lampard/Drogba/Anelka are all over 30 and with them only having a few years at most in them this is my best chance for longevity especially with you needing to splash out 30-35 million each time for any decent established player :(

On the older games I used to always buy the established players in their primes but feel like this is a much better way of going about this.

Depends what team I'm managing really.

A team in the top division of a country - A mixture of young players and some players with experience. The oldest I'll usually sign a player is 25, with exceptions.

A team in any other division - A mixture of promising youth, some experienced heads and loan players in to fill gaps.

A team in financial difficulties - Loans and free's all day as long as they're an improvement.

Lower Leagues - Experience
Higher Leagues - Prospects

Top Leagues - Class. Talent. Ability.

In a word: profit. After 3 seasons at a club, the transfer spending should always have more income than spending. And this can be because people are buying the developed youth prospects for a fortune... let it be...

It depends on your aims and what you want to achieve. For example at Hull City i had financial problems, so i had to sell before i bought, so it made me think more about who i bought and i bought in players who i could do a job but very few. They where in the prime as i knew i couldn't afford to replace them. However my current game at Macclesfield i started in League Two, my aim is to get to the PL, until i get there i am not bothered what it takes as i know i can push the barriers of my finances as the benefits you get from being in the Premier League will pay off anything i owe.

I'm not too bothered about that if I'm making enough profit in other areas of the club.

Ah, but I'm making nearly 10 million € a month profit without transfers. If I spent that much, I would end up being like Manchester City, something I don't want to do.

At the moment I'm sticking with nationalistic management so I can only sign players that have the same nationality as the country I'm playing in. Makes the game a little more interesting.

Like others have mentioned, depends on the team I'm managing.

I like to pick up listed players and free agents. After the first season, the AI normally offers out quality players for cheap prices. Considering we have to offer out our players for less than their value most of the time, I consider it justice to do the same to the AI.

Free agents tend to feature in most of my saves because they offer real value for money. For example, I won't spend more than £1M on someone who I consider back-up (unless there's potential), so I'll normally have a raid through the released players.

For lower league games, free/cheap experienced players with pacey youngsters.

I tend to be quite a Levy with wages & appearance fees too. As you'd expect, I've seen the red dialogue box quite often.

Depends on who I am so it varies from game to game.

At the moment I am in my first season with Rangers and you really need to sell before you can buy which I have done.

In terms of who I bring in, this time around it has been cheap players who have potential but can also instantly fill the gap for those sold at much higher fees.

After the first season I usually try and aim for nationalistic management but it never really pans out well.

Pretty much this. Can't really go that wrong with youngsters...lower down the leagues you should be able to pick up a decent squad on frees over a few seasons, you'll probably lose a few to wages or bigger clubs but lower down they are easily enough to replace and you should get decent money for the ones you can't keep hold off. Eventually it pays off.

Top leagues you can afford the scouts to find the best talented youngsters and develop them.

Oh, another policy of mine, I will very rarely sell a player to a club in the same league as me. I always fear they'll come back and do me in when we play.

Opposite to me, I normally like to sell players to clubs in the same league as me in the hope they flop hugely and they can watch me progress

That's such an FM trait though. I've done it cautiously once or twice and it's been okay.

I've cleared out my whole U18 squad bar two or three. Put them in the reserves and use them occasionally in the first team. Will look to do the same on my main save too. Saves loads on wages.

I cant sign any really ugly players. I just cant look at there face on a regular basis. Maniche is a prime example of this, his stats would allow him to rape the c'ship and his wage demands are reasonable but I cant look at this regularly......
