Just bought FM2012 from JB HI FI in Australia and after the mother of all palavas trying to get my steam account restored, I finally get the "online authorisation" tick so I can install. Cool I thought, soon I'll be playing. Wrong. Got this message "you cannot install FM2012 because it has not been released yet!"
Well what the * is the point of selling it in the shops if I cant play it straight away.
A very angry customer who knew the whole steam / internet thing was going to be trouble.

He's got a point. Although I think the shops shouldn't be selling it if they know (not saying they do know) it can't be played until release.
I guess you'll have to wait until midnight your time, perhaps.

Exactly right, they shouldnt. Unlike Cupid, I have a day job am not up to speed on this pre release activation thing. The whole internet activation thing is a frankly joke. It might have some merit if it was fool proof, but it aint.

Mate are you in Melbourne?
JB Hi-Fi is the best place to get it, good call. How much is it there?

I'm in sydney - its 76 bucks I think (or there abouts). I really hope this midnight thing is synced to Eastern Standard Time and not the states or I'll be waiting until tomorrow night!

I fear I am wasting my time with this discussion. JB Hi Fi are massive retailer in Aus - not "somebody" as you claim. This is the first time ever I've been sold a product but cannot use it because of a silly release date. I know you're young but try to get out a bit more.

The point is - the shop shouldn't have sold you it as it is not yet released. What more need be said? Go troll the Hi Fi forums.
True. But on the consumers part he honestly thought it had been released. I completely agree with you that it shouldn't have been sold.
It comes out tonight yeah?

My point is how am I supposed to know its not released yet? I knew it was coming out soon and when I saw it in the shop on the way home from work assumed (silly me) it was out. I find your "troll" claim somewhat ironic given your feeble attempts to insult me. The irony though appears to have gone right over your head.

The global release date for FM2012 is 21.10.11, so in a few hours, you'll be able to play the game.
The retailer should have been making people aware that you can pre-load the game (the whole point of a pre-load is to allow Steam users with lower line speeds to be ready for release day).
As for the animosity here, calm it lads. This guy is probably new to the FM community, how many of you would know the release date/pre-load details if you hadn't read it online?

When you say a few hours do you mean around 3? Its 9pm sydney time - does the release date take specific regions into account via steam or is it some global release date.
On another note, I would like to apologise to Cupid for getting angry. No hard feelings.

I like this hangar guy
Just had a chat with Miles on twitter (Studio director of FM btw) and he says it's out midnight BST (British Summer Time) EVERYWHERE.
This means that you guys in Australia will have to wait a bit longer for it to come out. If you live in America you'll get it Thursday evening.
