TARRANT APPOINTED SUCCESSOR TO COOPER

BEDFONT TOWN CLUB NEWS
By Stewart Cook | Tuesday 5 July 2011

Bedfont Town have announced the arrival of Jamie Tarrant, 31, as the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central club's new manager of all football matters with immediate effect.

Chairman Doug White said of the appointment: "It will come as a massive surprise to all the commentators in non-League football that we announce the appointment of the highly-rated Jamie Tarrant as manager of Bedfont Town Football Club.

“Over the last month or so Jamie has been evaluating our potential as well as his own ambition and feels that the coming together could offer us both an exciting future and I’m delighted Jamie has invited Jon-Barrie Bates to become his number two.

“We are sure that the non-League press will be highlighting what will be seen as a major coup in the coming weeks, personally I am overwhelmed by Jamie's professionalism and enthusiasm for our club and sure that everybody will benefit from his presence as he aims to take us to a new level.

"Jamie believes if there is a club he can take from step four into the Conference, it is a club like ours, as we have no debts and no skeletons in our closets. He has turned down jobs at a higher level for precisely that reason, but he has a club here which he can mould into his own shape."

Tarrant played for Bedfont Town from the age of fourteen to eighteen before spells at Ashford, Feltham and Blue Square Premier side Hayes & Yeading. He finished his career in Slovenia, turning out for Maribor. He made twenty four appearances in European competition for the Slovenian side, scoring in the UEFA Europa Legaue Cup twice.

He retired due to injury at the age of 29 and took on the task of achieving his coaching badges. He was appointed manager of Uxbridge in September 2009.

He received the manager of the month award from the Evo-Stik League for March 2010 when his team topped the division, and again for May 2010 after another winning run as he led the club to the play-offs, narrowly missing out in the final. Tarrant did lift a trophy at Uxbridge as they celebrated winning the Red Insure Cup back in May 2011.

He resigned on 17 May 2011 to embark on a new challenge.

TARRANT EXCITED FOR BEDFONT TOWN

Posted Image Posted Image

BEDFONT TOWN CLUB NEWS
By Stewart Cook | Wednesday 6 July 2011

I managed to catch up with newly appointed Bedfont Town manager, Jamie Tarrant, this morning at the club's training session to ask questions on his appointment, his plans for the club, the future of the club and also his lifestyle.

Q: Welcome to Bedfont Town Jamie, how are you feeling at this moment?
A: I feel good, our first training session has gone well and I'm happy that we've got an array of characters here. A few cheeky lads but it's also nice to have those that are taking it seriously too, it's a healthy balance. I've really enjoyed the three hours we've all had together.

Q: Have you already got an idea of which players are first team standard from the session?
A: I do and I don't. A few of the lads here have really impressed me and they'll certainly be big players for us during the season but I don't think it's fair as of yet to have a real concrete line-up on paper. We have seven friendlies before the start of the season and I'm sure I'll have more or less have made a decision by then, but everyone has a chance at this moment in time.

Q: What are your plans for Bedfont Town?
A: We have our targets, myself and the Chairman and these expectations have been passed on to the players. We have set ourselves a five year guideline where we hope to be in the Blue Square divisions, it'll take a lot of hard work, dedication and also motivation but I'm sure we'll live up to these expectations.

Q: How did the players react to the targets set by yourself and Doug White?
A: They're excited, we all are and there's every reason to be. I hope that on the way to achieving these aims that we can still keep players we have at this day, a good group of players that have passion and loyalty towards a club will help us get their quicker and from what I've seen everyone at the club are quite close which is a definite positive.

Q: If Bedfont Town are to get in to the Blue Square divisions, what then?
A: We'd like to consolidate ourselves at the top of the non-league before pushing for promotion to the Football League, that's where we all want to be at some point. The sky is the limit for us really.

Q: About yourself now, what type of character are you?
A: I'd like to say I'm a serious man but that would only be true to an extent. I'm a strong person and that comes across quite clearly when we speak to people and I'd also say I'm very easy going. I relish my evenings at the pub and hopefully the players will soon join me. I'd like to create a family-feel around the club and the dressing room.

Bedfont Town's first pre season fixture is in six days time at The Orchard, kick off is at 19:45.

TWO ADDITIONS TO BEDFONT TOWN

Posted Image Posted Image

BEDFONT TOWN CLUB NEWS
By Stewart Cook | Friday 8 July 2011

Bedfont Town have today confirmed a double signing. 44 year old midfielder Steve Richardson has signed on a one year deal at The Orchard whilst 31 year old Marc Townsend joins on a pre-season trial, like Richardson, Townsend is also a central midfielder.

Steve Richardson was part of the Poole Town team who were crowned Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division Champions in May 2011. Richardson left the club in the summer after spending seven seasons with the club.

He totalled 283 games for the 'Dolphins' scoring thirty one goals. Richardson also had spells as Wimborne, Bashley, Weymouth, Basingstoke and Eastleigh. He said: "I'm delighted to find a club so quickly and I promise to give my all to the club for the year I have on my contract."

Marc Townsend played for Wakefield for two years and Ossett Albion for one year before moving to Uxbridge in 2009. A former player under the management of Jamie Tarrant. The newly appointed Bedfont Town manager said: "I'm delighted he's here for a couple of weeks.

"The deal at the moment is just a trial that runs to the end of our pre season schedule and that's all it will be for now. Marc is a good lad and hopefully he still impresses me and can sign a deal to the end of the season. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on here."

With the news of two additions to the squad also comes the news from the FA Cup and FA Trophy draws. Bedfont Town will play either Rossington Main or Stratford in the FA Cup preliminary round and will play Bognor Regis Town in the FA Trophy preliminary round, where Leek will await the winners to contest the FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round.

BEDFONT TOWN STEAL NARROW WITHAM WIN

Posted Image

BEDFONT TOWN CLUB NEWS
By Stewart Cook | Tuesday 12 July 2011

Bedfont Town won a hard fought first pre season friendly against Witham Town on a fine summer's evening at The Orchard as Jamie Tarrant's men had to come from behind to claim victory. On-trial midfielder Marc Townsend suffered the ignominy of scoring a calamitous own goal in the 2nd minute on the clock.

Townsend accidentally touching Stewart Evans' cross past Bedfont Town goalkeeper Bob Proctor. Young midfielder Mick Walsh then equalised for Bedfont Town in the 28th minute with a well struck effort from inside the penalty area following good work from forward Aaron Samuel.

Forward Jonathan O'Connor then put Witham Town back in front after 53 minutes with an effort from the edge of the area after Bedfont Town defender Alistair Elliott had given the ball away cheaply.

Young striker Ryan Doyle then equalised again for Bedfont Town in the 61st minute following up to tap the ball into the net after Brett Maher's shot was saved. Ryan Doyle saw his 65th minute strike questionably chalked off for offside. Substitute Brett Maher then clinched a late winner in stoppage time with a header at the far post from Danny Cole's left wing cross.

Jamie Tarrant was pleased with how the game went: "We did well out there, fitness is they key at the moment and playing for ninety minutes after two months off is never easy but they got through it quite well.

The defending does need to be worked on a little, there were a few errors and they need to be cut out, in the league those mistakes will be pounced on just like tonight. Other than though the determination to come back twice and to have the legs to win the game in the final minutes was very pleasing."

ON-TRIAL TOWNSEND SHINES IN FRIENDLY

BEDFONT TOWN CLUB NEWS
By Stewart Cook | Friday 15 July 2011

An efficient performance from Jamie Tarrant's Bedfont Town saw them run out 4-2 winners over Faversham Town at The Orchard in their second game of their pre-season schedule. A brace from on-trial Marc Townsend helped Bedfont Town to victory.

Experienced midfielder Marc Townsend got Bedfont Town off to a flyer by scoring an effort from the edge of the area on 8 minutes. Townsend added his second goal of the game with a shot from the edge of the area on 23 minutes after Billy Murphy had laid the ball off for him.

Left winger and Bedfont Town favourite Ryan Lake scored with a simple finish from close range in the 37th minute to extend the lead further. However, young striker Dan Weatherly pulled one back for Faversham Town after 67 minutes with a shot deflected past Bob Proctor.

It was a superb solo effort from Jimmy Hendry to set up Weatherly for the shot. Stocky winger Marc Henderson then gave the Faversham Town fans a glimmer of hope only three minutes later as his cross managed to find it's way in to the net past the bemused Bedfont Town goalkeeper.

Ryan Doyle rounded off the scoring and secure victory for Bedfont Town on 78 minutes with a simple finish from close in after some good footwork from two goal hero and man of the match Marc Townsend.

Jamie Tarrant was on hand to say a few words: "I'm delighted with the attacking flair we've shown again today and I can't complain about the two goals conceded, one was an unlucky deflection and the second a freakish sort of goal and that happens sometimes.

"Marc Townsend on the other hand is showing the sort of form he had at Uxbridge whilst I was there and he has really shown Bedfont Town what he's all about tonight. Hopefully he can continue with form like this so I can offer him a permanent deal."

TOWN DEFENDING PUNISHED AT THE ORCHARD

Posted Image

BEDFONT TOWN CLUB NEWS
By Stewart Cook | Thursday 21 July 2011

Despite having the better of the match at The Orchard, Bedfont Town were unable to profit as they went down to Ryman outfit Whyteleafe. The greater incisiveness of the victors resulted in a comfortable 3-1 scoreline against Bedfont Town, who failed to turn their superior possession into goals.

Things did not get off to a good start for Bedfont Town as young striker Bradley Carpenter seized on an error by Alistair Elliott to score an incisive finish after only 9 minutes on the clock. Centre-back Gary Ross then summed up his team's performance by nearly gifting Whyteleafe another goal on 23 minutes as his back pass was intercepted. However, the subsequent shot was wide of the mark.

Centre-back Gareth Wray doubled Whyteleafe's lead with a fine header from point-blank range on 51 minutes from an in-whipped corner kick. Winger Matthew Smith gave the Bedfont Town fans something to cheer after 71 minutes with a close range header from Ryan Lake's pin-point cross.

Whyteleafe centre-back Brandon Webster completed the scoring with the game's third headed goal as he found the net from just inside the six-yard box on 82 minutes. Things went from bad to worse for Bedfont Town as Smith earned himself an early bath for a vicious foul on 89 minutes.

"I'm disappointed. We had a hold on the game and were the better side bar a mistake or two but in the end we've slumped to a defeat and it shows after two wins already in pre-season that we still have much work to do." said Tarrant following the defeat.

He went on to say: "Our defensive work needs improving as Whyteleafe's goals were too simple for my liking, they didn't have to work hard enough for them. Marc Townsend put in another good shift and I may offer him a contract at some point this week.
