When I don't play FM I don't think about it much, but when I do think about it shit gets philosophical. A few weeks back I started thinking about my times at Pohang, Ajax and Selangor last year. Each time I resigned and each time I thought there was nothing left to do.

Looking back at things what harm could have came from me staying on at those clubs? I could have continued building and then I could have left when I had another job lined up. I usually leave clubs when things become a wee chore and I struggle to see myself getting through a season. But it doesn't take me that long to do a season, I can complete a season in one day. So really, I could have stayed at those clubs, battled on through a season and then reshaped the club to make things interesting.

That reshaping could have came from new signings, new tactics or new aspirations. I'm at Cheonan atm, a club with no history, shit players, shit facilities and shit everything. I'm looking ahead and trying to figure out when to leave. Is it really worth me leaving for another N-League team? Is it really worth me leaving for a lower K-League team? Is it worth me going abroad?

OH I DO LOVE FM. I'm in one of those FM talking moods. If we manage to get this thread onto a discussion regarding furthering careers AND the Copa Libertadores then I'll be elated.

I normally leave when I feel all that can be achieved has.

I rarely leave a team knowing there's more to be done unless boredom stipulates. I have a thing for leaving a team just after winning something, take Ivory Coast as a prime example. England is the same, I have won the World Cup and therefore am merely sticking around for the Euros as otherwise I'd be holidaying.

International management is a funny one. You can't really call when to leave because you can always be 12 months away from an amazing batch of youngsters coming through. I do quite fancy a stab at African national management but I refuse to do dual management again. I've always hated it but last year I allowed myself some dual management to further my club career. However I found it diminished my enjoyment of it.

I haven't managed much at the top, so I usually leave when I have a better job lined up if I have that choice.

Judging by your story so far, getting Cheonan anywhere is gonna take 10-15 years, although I think you'd have much more success with a conventional formation. I'm in my third full season with Tavria and I'm getting itchy feet even though I've been relatively successful.

So for you, I'd say you should leave when you don't think you can take the club any further.

I have always found dual management defeats realism, there's no chance any manager can do it in real life unless he manages a part time team and the Gambian national side.

When I do leave it's normally well thought out as there's no going back unless your successor fails immediately. The good thing with national management though is you're always a few games away from a new job. All it takes is one or two defeats in a World Cup and you could see a raft of new nations available to manage.

The coin has two sides though.

I've always wanted to be at a club with nothing and make something of them. Cheonan is as good a club as any to do that with. I'd like to stay here for a good stint but fuck knows what will happen. If Pohang or Jeonbuk come calling the temptation may prove too much. Mind you, I'm closer to the sack than fucking Pohang atm.

I'm currently 2-0 up against the 3rd placed team after tweaking my tactics pre-game, so maybe shit will click?

I used to think a dynasty could only be built in Europe. As only in Europe do you have true room to grow with Champions League revenues. However, a dynasty can be relative. A European dynasty may not be as big as say an Asian dynasty, but they are both equal in impressiveness due to what is needed.

A Cheonan dynasty sounds lovely, but its a matter of interest.

The only 'dynasty's I've ever managed to build have been from existing heavyweights before FM was FM. All European, probably all English.

Closest I came probably was Malaga. Took them from the second division to the top of Europe. New stadium, world class facilities, money in the bank and an amazing squad. But that still wasn't a dynasty, there was still work left to do.

I'm gonna be controversial and say that you couldn't have made a dynasty with Malaga, nationalistic and sustainable management would have held you back.

Would have just taken a lot longer to do it. I've never really thought about it until now but the longevity of that Malaga career and last years career probably can be attributed to Sustainable and Nationalistic Management. Might be time to fully adopt those bad boys again instead of just bending them.

Those aspects definitely make the game more interesting, I'm starting to wish I'd followed them in this game, then I wouldn't have missed out on the players that I have. I don't now if it is suitable if you want to make a dynasty with a club that starts as nothing.

Don't forget though that one of the features that made Nationalistic management viable was the scouting, now by all accounts they've messed it up.

The biggest loss comes in transfer fees. As foreigners nine times out of ten sell for more than domestic players when you are outside the big leagues.

Ali - That's true, although I can see the advantages of the quick scout. Means you can break your scouts up into positions and age and get quick reports.

... and also you have to buy from rivals which the game doesn't like doing.

It all boils down to the game appreciating property over money.

I wanna start a new game with Nationalistic and Sustainable Management now. Dunno if I want to waste four days holidaying to 2030 though.
